Coast and Country September 2019 Newsletter

This months’ walker of the Month is, Paul Conquest.

Paul originally started Nordic Walking in September 2017. He lives in Haywards Heath and works full-time, which has meant attendance, has been limited. Paul managed to attend sporadic group walks but has had to keep himself motivated. He was really pleased when Katie started walks in the Haywards Heath area and was the first one to sign up to the Ditchling Beacon walk. It was at that point, he realised his fitness had to improve and he wanted to shed some pounds. He had a health check and his doctor who agreed changes were needed. Paul is now walking most days and is pushing his pace. He travels around and has attended Haywards Heath, Crawley and Littlehampton sessions. He has lost a substantial amount of weight and his doctor is extremely pleased with the improvements with his health check results. Well done, Paul!!!!!!

The next social evening will incorporate an optional walk starting and finishing at the Black Rabbit in Arundel. We are planning on making the most of the evening light by starting our walk at 6.30pm, hopefully seeing the sunset. We will then have a soft or alcoholic beverage and a good old chat.

Please book to give us an idea on numbers.

This is very early notice but we are planning a social walk for all groups to take place at the wonderful Sheffield Park. The grounds are spectacular and the tearoom serves the biggest scones I have ever seen!!! More details in the next Newsletter, but keep the date free.

The programme is getting bigger. We have some midweek walks.

If you have not had your free walk book it now.

Mandy has planned some wonderful walks and workout sessions.

Donald is running a special Technique workshop.

This is a special workshop designed to take you right back to basics. Donald will breakdown the Nordic Walking technique and observe you closely.

This is the perfect opportunity to see if you have got into bad habits or if you are someone who did your course a long time ago but have not attended a walk for a while.

It is optional, but would be great if you bring a phone for videoing your technique.

Book now, as places are limited!!!!!!

I have been asked the above question a few times lately; I hope this makes it clear. If you are on Direct Debit (DD) you are entitled to x1 free walk per month with another club. When you book you will automatically be booked on for free as you are with Coast and Country DD. Additional walks will be charged at the rate of the advertised walk less 20%. If you know this is likely to happen a few times it is worth having some money being saved on the pre-paid package to get your 20% discount off the additional walks.

The free walk is not available on pre-paid packages (£50 or £100) or pay as you go. Walking with other groups will be charged at the advertised walk rate.

PLEASE NOTE – All of the walks listed on the Coast and Country website (all areas) are the one club. You can use any payment plan freely.

As a group we are passed Aberystwyth and on our way to Scotland. The long-term plan is to walk the parameter of Great Britain. We will do it in x4 stages.

Anyone can join at any stage.

It is easy to take part

  1. Download the free STRAVA App
  2. Join the Coast and Country Nordic Walking Group
  3. When you start to walk open the app and press record (record it as a run and not a walk)
  4. When you stop the walk press finish.
  5. It will save it as a morning or evening walk. Use the edit option to name the walk. For example, evening adventure with the date.
  6. Each month I will look to see what you have done and tell you far you have got on your walk to

The great thing about this challenge is speed does not matter. It is the total amount of miles you do each month.

This months’ mileage

Richard 48, Peter S 5.5, Pete H 32, Paula 124, Mary 80.5, Mary-Jane 87.5, Louise 18, Kersti 24, Katie S 11, Josie 97.5, Gill T 39.5, Geoff 42, Eileen 19, Diana 13, Claire B 55.5, Caroline 28, sue 60.5, Pauline 206, Liz 192, Lesley 93.5, John 22
