Coast and Country August Newsletter

WELCOME TO AUGUST.

WALKER OF THE MONTH

This months’ walker of the Month is, Claire Bannister.

Claire was a regular walker and then, due to her health challenges she had to stop walking – so in March and May 2019, Claire was unable to walk at all.  She lost confidence and did not know if she would be able to Nordic Walk again.  After checking with her physical therapist, Claire decided to give the new Nice & Easy Walks a go, her first one was Thursday 20th June – she did not feel any worse after this initial session and has since become a regular at our Nice & Easy Walks and is back to doing the Tuesday Well Being Walk too.

Not only is Claire now back to walking regularly with us, she has also started to walk every day whilst Geoff takes their dog for a walk around their local Recreation Ground.

As you all know, we have started our Strava Challenge and it is a great way to see when our Coast & Country Members are Nordic Walking at different times other than our scheduled walks.  Claire has been posting her extra Nordic Walks on Strava during July and has been in the Top 3 on the Leaderboard which is an amazing achievement!

Well Done Claire, we are all very proud of you!

NICE AND EASY SPECIAL HOUGHTON SPLIT  – 19THAUGUST AND 9THSEPTEMBER

The Nice and Easy walks have proved to be very popular. Currently they have all been on the flat in Goring. However, we have had feedback stating that some of you would like to do a gentle walk around Houghton: still incorporating the hills but taking them slowly.

The idea is to start the walk together. Those who want a faster walk will get going at their pace. Anyone wanting the slower walk will take a slightly different route. We will meet up again towards the end to finish together. Book the Special Houghton Splitwalk on the programme.

Book it now!

It is a great way to spend a summers evening. It is advertised as a run, but they were very welcoming and let us walk with poles.

The website is saying places are now limited. It did get fully booked last year, so book today!!!!!!!!!

CHICHESTER 10 MILE – 6thOctober 2019

The race entry is now open. The only option is the 10 miles this year for Nordic walking. If you are concerned about your fitness Carl Larkin from Chichester is leading some specific training sessions on route.

The sessions are listed on the Exercise-anywhere web site under the Chichester schedule.

“Practice session for the Chichester 10M event @1pm on Sundays. You will walk part of the actual course starting at 5M and building up to 10 miles over 5 weeks in 1M increments. The intent is to build up strength & stamina and to give you an idea of your pace & personal target”.

WALK LEADERS WANTED!

In order to grow Crawley, Crawley Down, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Hassocks we need Walk Leaders to lead walks in the mornings during the week and some weekend cover.

You get full training. It is volunteering; however, you do receive payment without being employed. You can plan it to work with your schedule. It is also great fun!

Walk leaders can choose how often they want to lead and we plan in advance.
